Traveling in time and space through the silver screen
This online community software uses Google mapping API and custom timeline software to provide a world map and timeline listing of period movies throughout the ages. Users can search for particular countries or dates to find movies created about those times.
While reading The Great Gatsby a person might want to get a visual idea of what else was going on in New York or around the world in 1922. Users can search for all the movies made about the 14th century or all the movies which take place in Brazil. Users can view a list of sci-fi movies which take place after 2020, or they can search for movies which take place in Paris between the dates of 1960-1979.
The timeline also tracks when period films were made in hopes to search for social patterns. Do some time periods in history hold particular relevance for people living in certain decades?
Frequent Flyer
The World According to your Armchair
This site tallies the number of virtual miles you travel and the countries you visit each day while you surf the internet. Before your daily surf, you simply log into the site, and the subsequent pages you visit will be cumulated. You can monitor your miles over time…and the most prolific searchers will join our virtual traveler’s hall of fame and have a chance at gaining actual trips around the world through our Donate Your Frequent Flyer Miles program.
This website tracks the distance in physical miles which a user travels while on the internet. The software automatically collects IP data to tally your physical location in relation to the sites you visit. The site also suggests great sites which originate outside of Europe and the USA, and also collects travel links from around the world. This site is dedicated to helping people get around. If you are getting all your information from one country are you really living in a global world, taking advantage of the miracles of virtual travel and digital publishing?
Technical Note: Sometime the sites you visit are hosted in a location that is different than the location of the creators, but normally sites originate from the host country.
Life after Your Life
Suggesting the future so that you can plan tomorrow.
Opening Text:
Ever wonder what life will be like on your 80th birthday? What will your children’s life be like at age 30? Simply enter your date of birth, or the date of birth of your children and you can browse some of the predictions of your fellow humans and of the famous thinkers of our time. Did you know that paid tourism to outer space is already a reality? Did you know that a cat has been cloned? Don’t worry, is hard for all of us to imagine that just 100 years ago TV, telephones, airplanes, the internet and penicillin didn’t even exist.
As a society we tend to focus on the historical past more than we do the unknown future. Is the world changing more rapidly than it has historically? When exactly will some people be selecting the traits of their children from a variety of egg/sperm combinations? When will war be a thing of the past? Do some people have a psychic ability to see into the future? How good are you at guessing future trends?
